About Me
Hi! My name is Ginny Bixby and I am the senior reporter for MoCo360 (formerly Bethesda Beat), the online daily news arm of Bethesda Magazine in Montgomery County, Maryland. I report on the inner workings of local politics and government, and I also produce enterprise reporting on everything from how elections work, to the epidemic of traffic-related deaths, to access to trans health care.
As a journalist, I have a particular passion for reporting on how race, gender, and sexuality intersect in government policies. I feel strongly that reporters have a responsibility to uplift marginalized voices that have often been ignored by the media. I also care a lot about making the journalism industry a better place for women and LGBTQ people.
I previously worked as the city reporter for The Daily Progress, a daily newspaper in Charlottesville, Virginia. I covered the city government and other happenings in the city, and led the publication’s coverage of the Confederate statue removal in July 2021. I focused a lot on how the historical landscape of the city affects its present day existence, especially in regards to racial segregation.
I have received awards for my reporting from the Local Media Association, the Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Press Association, and the Virginia Press Association. My reporting has been picked up by state, regional, and national media - including The Washington Post, the Associated Press, and US News and World Report. I was interviewed on NPR’s Here and Now and on LBC Radio in London, UK about the removal of Charlottesville’s Confederate statues.
I graduated from the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia with a double B.A. in American Studies and English. Outside of my work, I love reading, collecting music on vinyl, going to concerts, and teaching dance.
